Paroxetine hydrochloride and paroxetine mesylate are antidepressant drugs and are called selective serotonin-reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).
SSRIs efficiently inhibits neuronal serotonin reuptake. They have mild to zero effect on norepinephrine or dopamine reuptake. They do not affect dopamine D2 or histamine H1, ⍺- or β-adrenergic receptors.
Short-term usage inhibit SSRIs block serotonin reuptake and also increase serotonin stimulation of somatodendritic 5-HT1A and terminal autoreceptors.
