ZOLEDRONIC ACID

Zoledronic acid is used to treat high blood calcium levels due to cancer or osteoporosis.

Suppresses osteoclast action and bone calcium discharge stimulated by tumors. It diminishes serum calcium and phosphorus, and facilitates their removal. In osteoporosis, it represses osteoclast-intervened resorption, thus decreasing bone turnover.

Uses

Zoledronic acid is used in treating the following:

Hypercalcemia of malignancy
Bone metastases associated with solid tumours
Osteolytic lesions associated with multiple myeloma
Osteoporosis in postmenopausal women
Increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis
Paget’s disease of bone
Prophylaxis of postmenopausal osteoporosis

Warnings

Do not give Zoledronic acid to people with the following conditions:

Severe allergic reaction
Immunosuppression
Concurrent illness
Pregnancy

Side Effects

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

Patient with aspirin-sensitive asthma
Mild to moderate renal impairment
Pregnancy
