DESOGESTREL

Desogestrel is a synthetic hormonal medicine that is similar to levonorgestrel in terms of structure and is classified as a progestogen. It inhibits ovulation, so it is being used in contraception. It is an oral contraceptive pill taken once a day.

Desogestrel is used as an oral contraceptive.

Do not give Desogestrel to people with the following conditions:

  • Pregnancy
  • Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding
  • Severe arterial disease
  • Liver adenoma
  • Porphyria
  • After evacuation of hydatidiform mole
  • History of breast cancer

  • Heart disease
  • Sex-steroid dependent cancer
  • Past ectopic pregnancy
  • Absorption syndromes
  • Functional ovarian cysts
  • Active liver disease
  • Recurrent cholestatic jaundice
  • History of jaundice in pregnancy
  • History of heart or kidney problems
  • Asthma
  • Epilepsy
  • Migraine
  • Depression
  • Lactation
