Furosemide is a drug that is known as a diuretic. It promotes the reabsorption of sodium and chloride in the medullary segment of the loop of Henle. It also promotes the excretion of potassium and ammonia. It enhances plasma-renin activity, and increases plasma-norepinephrine and plasma-arginine-vasopressin levels.
