HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS 9-VALENT VACCINE

OFETAXIM

Ofetaxim is used in the following conditions:

  • Used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, intra-abdominal infections, meningitis, and septicemia. It is effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

Cefotaxime is a valuable antibiotic in the treatment of bacterial infections. However, it is important to consult with your healthcare provider for specific information and guidance regarding its use, as they will consider your individual circumstances and provide the most appropriate recommendations.

This medicine may be recommended for different uses. Approach your physician or pharmacist for more information.

Do not use Ofexatim in people with the following conditions:

  • Hypersensitivity
  • Previous severe allergic reactions: If you have experienced a severe allergic reaction, such as anaphylaxis, to any cephalosporin antibiotic in the past, cefotaxime should be avoided.
  • Hypersensitivity to beta-lactam antibiotics: Some individuals may have a history of hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to other beta-lactam antibiotics, such as penicillins or carbapenems. In these cases, caution should be exercised, and cefotaxime should only be used if the potential benefits outweigh the risks.
  • Colitis or gastrointestinal disease: Cefotaxime can disrupt the natural balance of bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract and potentially lead to the overgrowth of bacteria such as Clostridium difficile, resulting in colitis. Therefore, it is contraindicated in patients with a history of colitis or gastrointestinal disease associated with antibiotic use.

It is important to note that this is not an exhaustive list of contraindications for cefotaxime. Each individual’s medical history and condition should be carefully evaluated by a healthcare professional before starting any medication. If you have any concerns or questions regarding the use of cefotaxime, it is best to consult with your healthcare provider for personalized advice.

Ofetaxim may have the following side effects:

  • Gastrointestinal issues: These can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Taking cefotaxime with food may help alleviate these symptoms.
  • Skin reactions: Some individuals may experience rashes, itching, or hives. If you develop a severe rash or experience difficulty breathing, seek immediate medical attention.
  • Headache: Cefotaxime may occasionally cause headaches, which are usually mild and transient.

Less common but potentially serious side effects may include:

  • Allergic reactions: Some individuals may experience severe allergic reactions to cefotaxime, such as swelling of the face, lips, or throat, difficulty breathing, or dizziness. If you experience any of these symptoms, seek immediate medical attention.
  • Superinfection: Cefotaxime can disrupt the natural balance of bacteria in the body, potentially leading to overgrowth of resistant bacteria or fungi. This can result in secondary infections, such as oral or vaginal thrush, or antibiotic-associated colitis. If you develop persistent diarrhea, abdominal pain, or other signs of superinfection, inform your healthcare provider.
  • Liver problems: In rare cases, cefotaxime may cause liver dysfunction, resulting in symptoms such as jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), dark urine, or abdominal pain. If you experience any of these symptoms, contact your healthcare provider.

Keep in mind that your physician has recommended this drug since he or she has known that the advantage to you is more noteworthy than the risk of adverse reactions. Many individuals utilizing this medicine don’t have serious side effects.

A serious allergy to this medication is uncommon. In any case, seek emergency medical help if you see any manifestations of a serious allergic response, including a rash, tingling or swelling particularly of the face or tongue or throat, dizziness or difficulty in breathing.

This is not a complete list of side effects. If you see other effects not recorded above, contact your physician or pharmacist.

Precautions

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

  • Allergy history: Inform your healthcare provider if you have a history of allergies, particularly to cephalosporin antibiotics or any other medications. This information is crucial to avoid potential allergic reactions or cross-reactivity.
  • Kidney function: Cefotaxime is eliminated from the body primarily through the kidneys. If you have impaired kidney function, your healthcare provider may need to adjust the dosage or frequency of cefotaxime to prevent excessive drug accumulation.
  • Blood clotting disorders: Cefotaxime may interfere with blood clotting, leading to abnormal bleeding. If you have a bleeding disorder or are taking medications that affect blood clotting, let your healthcare provider know to monitor your condition closely.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Cefotaxime is generally considered safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, it is always important to discuss the potential risks and benefits with your healthcare provider before using any medication during these periods.
  • Diarrhea: Cefotaxime can disrupt the normal balance of bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract, potentially leading to antibiotic-associated diarrhea. If you develop severe or persistent diarrhea, inform your healthcare provider.

It is essential to follow your healthcare provider’s instructions and take cefotaxime exactly as prescribed. If you have any concerns or questions regarding the precautions associated with cefotaxime, do not hesitate to consult your healthcare provider for personalized advice.

Prior to taking this medicine, tell your physician or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, or if you have some other hypersensitivities. This drug may contain inert ingredients which can cause unfavorable side effects or different issues. Talk with your pharmacist for more information.

Interactions

Ofetaxim may interact with the following medicines:

  • Probenecid: Probenecid can increase the concentration of cefotaxime in the blood by reducing its elimination. This can lead to higher levels of cefotaxime and potentially increase the risk of side effects.
  • Aminoglycosides: When used concomitantly with aminoglycoside antibiotics (such as gentamicin), cefotaxime may enhance their activity against certain bacteria.
  • Oral contraceptives: Some studies suggest that cefotaxime may reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives, potentially increasing the risk of unintended pregnancy. Additional contraceptive methods may be recommended while using cefotaxime.
  • Anticoagulants: Cefotaxime may interact with anticoagulant medications (such as warfarin), increasing the risk of bleeding. Close monitoring of blood clotting parameters may be necessary in such cases.
Loop diuretics: Concurrent use of cefotaxime with loop diuretics (such as furosemide) may increase the risk of kidney dysfunction and hearing loss.

Inform your physician about the drugs you take including over-the-counter medications, prescribed drugs, supplements and vitamins.

This is not a complete list of drug interactions. Approach your physician or pharmacist for more details.

The effects of certain medications can change if you consume different medications or herbal products simultaneously. This can build your risk for side effects or may cause your drugs not to work effectively. These interactions are conceivable, yet don’t generally happen. Your physician or pharmacist can prevent or oversee interactions by changing how you utilize your prescriptions or by close checking.

While utilizing this drug, don’t start, stop, or change the dose of other medicines you are using without your physician’s advice.

If you suspect an overdose, contact your doctor right away.
