LEVAMISOLE

Levamisole is a drug that is known as an anthelminthic, meaning that it is used to treat intestinal parasitism. It is known as the active levo-isomer of tetramisole and paralyzes intestinal worms, as well as strengthening the cellular immune response of the body.

Levamisole is used in the treatment of ascariasis, ancylostomiasis and mixed-ascariasis hookworm infections.

  • Pre-existing blood disorders
  • Pregnancy and lactation
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Severe kidney impairment

Levamisole may have the following side effects:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Dizziness and headache
  • Fever, influenza-like syndrome
  • Arthralgia
  • Muscle pain
  • Rash
  • Taste disturbances
  • Cutaneous vasculitis
  • Thrombocytopenia

Take extra caution in patients with the following medines:

  • Hepatic impairment
  • Sjogren’s syndrome
