ASCORBIC ACID + FERROUS SULFATE

Ascorbic acid + ferrous sulfate is a combination of a vitamin and a mineral.

Ascorbic acid or Vitamin C is required for the correct development and functioning of the body. It likewise assumes an important role in keeping up with immune resistance.

Ferrous sulfate is an iron supplement used to treat or deal with low blood iron in aging or  pregnancy. Ascorbic acid improves the absorption of iron from the gastrointestinal tract.

Uses

Ascorbic acid + ferrous sulfate is used in the following:

  • Reduced physical and mental efficiency
  • Fatigue
  • Exhaustion
  • Inability to concentrate or sleep
  • Irritability
  • Stressful conditions such as convalescence from prolonged illness, debility, physical and mental stress and chronic alcohol intake
  • Adjunct to specific therapy in diabetes mellitus, TB and other chronic disease
  • Mineral deficiency states

Do not give Ascorbic acid + ferrous sulfate to people with the following conditions:

  • Hypersensitivity

Ascorbic acid + ferrous sulfate may have the following side effects:

  • Gastrointestinal upset

Precautions

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

  • Pernicious anemia
  • Hepatic or renal impairment
  • Severe vitamin or mineral deficiency during pregnancy (1st trimester)
  • Lactation

Interactions

Ascorbic acid + ferrous sulfate may interact with the following medicines:

  • Digoxin
  • Insulin detemir
  • Melatonin
  • Esomeprazole
  • Niacin
