Palbociclib is a drug that is a reversible, specific inhibitor of cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) 4 and 6. Cyclin D1, CDK 4 and 6 are downstream of numerous signaling pathways which lead to cell growth. Hindrance of CDK4/6 decreases the multiplication of breast cancer cells by blocking movement from G1 into the S phase of the cell cycle. It is chemotherapy that makes cancer cells stop growing or makes the growth slow. Palbociclib is available in capsule form. You should read and understand the instructions in the leaflet on how to use it correctly.
The dosage of medical treatment is based on the condition of the patient. Let your doctor know if you have some allergies, or if you are taking some medicines, vitamins and herbal products. The doctor may stop or lessen the dosage if side effects happen. Grapefruit can increase the occurrence of side effects, so avoid drinking or eating this during treatment.
Nausea, vomiting, tiredness, loss of appetite, diarrhea, hair loss, mouth irritation, and numbness are the usual side effects that can occur during treatment. If symptoms progress, consult a doctor. If you are pregnant or wanting to be pregnant, talk to a doctor because it can affect the unborn baby.
