NIFUROXAZIDE

Nifuroxazide is an antibacterial drug that is active against a wide range of bacteria that infect the gastrointestinal tract. It is an over-the-counter drug that is used to treat acute diarrhea caused by bacteria. It can reduce the number of stools after two days of treatment and decreases the duration of diarrhea to just 24 hours. It has not effect on normal intestinal bacteria.

Do not give Nifuroxazide to people with the following conditions:

  • Hypersensitivity to nitrofuran derivatives
  • Bloody stools
  • Fever
  • Vomiting
