MOMETASONE + FORMOTEROL

This medication is an inhaler used two times every day for long term control of asthma symptoms. Mometasone belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It works by reducing the irritation and swelling of the airways. Formoterol belongs to the class of drugs known as long-acting beta agonists. It works by opening airways in the lungs to make breathing easier.

Together, they prevent irritation and swelling in the airways, and causes muscles in the airways to relax, opening them for easier breathing.

This product is used to control and prevent symptoms (wheezing and shortness of breath) caused by asthma.

Do not use this drug to treat an asthma attack.

Talk with your doctor if you have:

  • Heart Disease
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Soft And Brittle Bones (Osteoporosis)
  • High Blood Sugar (Diabetes)
  • Thyroid Disease
  • Or A History of Seizures.

Less common side effects of this drug may include:

  • Cough
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Muscle Aches
  • Pain Or Tenderness Around The Eyes And Cheekbones
  • Shortness Of Breath Or Troubled Breathing
  • Sore Throat
  • Stuffy Or Runny Nose
  • Tightness Of The Chest Or Wheezing
  • Unusual Tiredness Or Weakness

Rare symptoms are sore in the mouth or tongue and white patches in the mouth or on the tongue

Tell your doctor promptly if any of these effects persist or worsen.

Precautions

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to mometasone or formoterol; or to arformoterol; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can trigger allergic reactions or other problems.

Share with your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of:

  • Current or Past Infections (Tuberculosis, Herpes)
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Heart Disease (Chest Pain, Heart Attack, Irregular Heartbeat)
  • Overactive Thyroid (Hyperthyroidism)
  • Seizures
  • Bone Loss (Osteoporosis)
  • Eye Problems (Cataracts, Glaucoma)
  • Diabetes
  • Swelling Of An Artery (Aneurysm)
  • Certain Tumor Of The Adrenal Gland (Pheochromocytoma)

 

Interactions

This medication interacts with nonselective beta-blockers (levobunolol, metoprolol, nadolol, propranolol, sotalol, timolol), and citalopram.

Notify your doctor and pharmacist about all of your medications and health problems so they can check for any interactions.

Call emergency hotline if someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing. Symptoms of overdose may include shaking (tremors), chest pain, fast or irregular heartbeat.
