GLAFENINE

Glafenine is an NSAID from the anthranilic acid derivative. Its high incidence of anaphylactic reactions led to its withdrawal from the market in most countries.

Glafenine is used in the treatment of pain and inflammation.

Glafenine should not be given to people with the following conditions:

  • Peptic ulceration
  • Hypersensitivity to NSAIDs/aspirin
  • Moderate/severe renal impairment
  • Diabetes or hypertension
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding woman
  • Hepatitis or cardiac diseases

Glafenine can give rise to the following side effects:

  • Anaphylaxis
  • Hepatotoxicity
  • Nephrotoxicity
  • Gastrointestinal disturbances
  • Crystallization in the urinary tract
  • Cross-reactivity with floctafenine

Precautions

Take precautions in patients with the following conditions:

  • Liver failure
  • Infection
  • Haemorrhagic disorders
  • Hypertension
  • Cardiac diseases
  • Asthma
  • Pregnancy and lactation

Glafenine may interact with the following:

  • Oral anticoagulants
  • Antivirals
  • Phenytoin
  • Sulfonylurea antidiabetic
  • Methotrexate
  • Cardiac glycosides
  • ACE inhibitors
  • Diuretics
  • β-blocker
  • Other NSAIDs
  • Lithium
  • Ciclosporin
  • Tacrolimus
  • Moclobemide
  • Corticosteroids
  • Antiplatelet drugs
  • Biphosphonates
  • SSRIs
  • Pentoxifylline
  • Alcohol
  • Tobacco
  • Quinolones
