Fluocinolone has local anti-inflammatory activity and has immunosuppressant and antimitotic actions. Less than 1% of the applied steroid is absorbed. The rest is put away in the dermis which acts as a reservoir. It is a synthetic hydrocortisone derivative. The fluorine substitution at position 9 in the steroid nucleus greatly enhances its activity.
