EMPAGLIFLOZIN + METFORMIN

This medication is a combination of two drugs: empagliflozin and metformin. It is usually used, along with proper diet and exercise, to treat high blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. Empagliflozin+Metformin can prevent kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs, and various diseases also. Controlling your high blood sugar levels can also control diabetes and prevent heart attacks or stroke. It is important to restore your body in the proper response to the insulin that the body can naturally produce. This drug also decreases the amount of sugar that is metabolized by your liver and enhances the removal of sugar by your kidneys. It can also help the stomach and intestines metabolize carbohydrates well.

It is useful to read a drug leaflet or medication guide that is provided by your pharmacist before you start taking this medication. In taking this medication, it is usually directed by the doctor through the mouth and twice daily with meals. The dosage can be based on the medical conditions, your response to treatment, and the other medications that you may be taking.   • Diabetic pre-coma
  • Acute or chronic metabolic acidosis
  • Diabetic ketoacidosis
  • Lactic acidosis
  • Alcoholism or acute alcohol intoxication
  • Cardiac or respiratory failure
  • Severe infection
  • Dehydration
  • Hepatic and severe renal impairment
  • Patient on dialysis
  • Lactation

Empagliflozin + Metformin may have the following side effects:

  • Bone fracture
  • Genital fungal infections
  • Angioedema
  • Vitamin B12 deficiency
  • Acute kidney impairment
  • Hypoglycemia
  • Abdominal pain
  • Loss of appetite
  • Arthralgia
  • Taste disturbances
  • Increased urination
  • Balanitis
  • Pruritus

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

  • Patient with risk factors for acute kidney injury
  • Congestive heart failure
  • History of pancreatitis
  • Trauma
  • Surgery
  • Pregnancy
