Delapril is a drug that inhibits angiotensin converting enzyme from angiotensin I to angiotensin II, which is a potent vasoconstrictor. This results to increase in plasma renin activity and reduction in aldosterone. Aldosterone is a hormone that causes water and sodium retention. It may also inhibit the degradation of bradykinin.
Delapril is used in the treatment of hypertension.
Delapril should not be used in people with aortic stenosis or outflow tract obstruction, in those with active or suspected kidney blood vessel disease and in pregnancy.
