CALAN/CALAN SR

Calan/Calan SR includes the active component Verapamil Hydrochloride, which is a calcium channel blocker. It operates by influencing the transport of calcium in the blood vessel and hearts.  Consequently, Calan/Calan SR soothes blood vessels, increasing oxygen and blood delivery to the heart while decreasing its strain.

Use this medication precisely as recommended by your physician. Follow the prescription of your doctor carefully. 

Your physician’s medication dose is based on your condition, other medications or food supplements you may take, and your reaction to treatment. Do not use Calan/Calan SR  in people with the following conditions:

  • Atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter
  • Severe ventricular dysfunction 
  • Sick-sinus syndrome

  • Uncompensated heart failure
  • Marked bradycardia
  • Hypotension 
  • Cardiogenic shock

Calan/Calan SR may have the following side effects:

  • Hepatotoxicity
  • Gynaecomastia
  • Extrapyramidal symptoms
  • Gingival hyperplasia
  • Skin reactions
  • Abnormal liver function
  • Nausea
  • Constipation
  • Peripheral edema
  • Dyspnea
  • Headache 
  • Fatigue
  • Flushing 
  • Dizziness
  • Hypotension
  • Transient asystole
  • Severe cardiac failure
  • Bradycardia 
  • AV block
