BACTAZ

BACTAZ contains both piperacillin and tazobactam.

Piperacillin inhibits bacterial septum formation and cell wall synthesis in susceptible bacteria. Tazobactam is a penicillanic acid sulfone derivative w/ β-lactamase inhibitory properties. In combination, tazobactam enhances the activity of piperacillin against β-lactamase-producing bacteria. Piperacillin and tazobactam has a wide range of activity and is active against gm+ve and gm-ve aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. 

Use this medication precisely as recommended by your physician. Follow the prescription of your doctor carefully. 

Your physician’s medication dose is based on your condition, other medications or food supplements you may take, and your reaction to treatment. To diminish your risks for adverse effects, don’t increase your dosage; take it regularly or as instructed by your physician. Adverse events may still happen even at usual prescription dosages.

Do not use Bactaz in people with the following conditions:

  • Hypersensitivity 
  • History of acute severe allergic reaction to any other β-lactam active substances 

Bactaz may have the following side effects:

  • Nausea
  • Neutropenia
  • Pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Leucopenia
  • Urticarial
  • Decreases in Hb and haematocrit
  • Thrombocytopenia
  • Fever
  • Prolonged prothrombin time and partial thromboplastin time.
  • Edema
  • Increases in platelet count
  • Positive Coombs’ test results
  • Bullous
  • Pruritus
  • Phlebitis
  • Thrombophlebitis,
  • Headache
  • Insomnia
  • Transient eosinophilia
  • Constipation
  • Maculopapular
  • Eczemoid
  • Inflammation

Potentially Fatal: 

  • Serious anaphylactic reactions
  • Antibiotic-induced pseudomembranous colitis
  • Stevens-Johnson syndrome
  • Toxic epidermal necrolysis

Keep in mind that your physician has recommended this drug since he or she has known that the advantage to you is more noteworthy than the risk of adverse reactions. Many individuals utilizing this medicine don’t have serious side effects.  

A serious allergy to this medication is uncommon. In any case, seek emergency medical help if you see any manifestations of a serious allergic response, including a rash, tingling or swelling of the face or tongue or throat, dizziness or difficulty breathing.

Interactions

Bactaz may interact with the following medicines:

  • Heparin
  • Oral anticoagulants
  • Vecuronium 
  • Non-depolarising muscle relaxants
  • Probenecid 
  • Methotrexate
