OLAPATADINE

Olopatadine is a selective histamine H1 receptor which blocks histamine that is released from mast cells. It also inhibits histamine-induced impact on conjunctival epithelial cells. It has several similar pharmacological characteristics of mast cell stabilizers.

Olopatadine is used to treat the following conditions:

  • Allergic conjunctivitis
  • Seasonal allergic rhinitis

Do not give Olopatadine to people with hypersensitivity to it.

Olapatadine may have the following side effects:

  • Headache
  • Somnolence
  • Symptoms similar to cold syndrome and pharyngitis
  • Blurred vision
  • Ocular burning or stinging
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Dry eye
  • Foreign body sensation
  • Hyperemia
  • Hypersensitivity
  • Keratitis
  • Lid edema
  • Ocular pain or pruritus
  • Bitter taste
  • Nosebleeds
  • Fever
  • Rash
  • Nasal ulceration and septal perforation
  • Pharyngolaryngeal pain
  • Postnasal drip
  • Cough
  • UTI
  • Upper rest tract infection

Precautions

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

  • Contact lens-related irritation
  • Other nasal disease
  • Pregnancy and lactation

 

Interactions

Olopatadine may interact with the following medicines:

  • Central nervous system depressants

Symptoms of overdose include drowsiness, agitation and restlessness. Seek medical help immediately
