HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS 9-VALENT VACCINE

ZARZIO

Zarzio is used in the following conditions:

  • Neutropenia: Filgrastim is commonly prescribed to help prevent or treat neutropenia, a condition characterized by a low count of neutrophils, a type of white blood cell that plays a crucial role in fighting off infections. Neutropenia can occur as a result of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or certain diseases. Filgrastim stimulates the production of neutrophils, helping to restore normal levels and reduce the risk of infections.
  • Cancer Treatment: Filgrastim is frequently used in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Chemotherapy drugs can suppress the bone marrow, leading to a decrease in neutrophil levels. By boosting the production of neutrophils, filgrastim helps to support the immune system, reduce the risk of infections, and maintain the planned chemotherapy schedule.
  • Stem Cell Transplantation: Filgrastim is also utilized in patients undergoing stem cell transplantation, such as bone marrow or peripheral blood stem cell transplantation. It helps stimulate the production of stem cells in the bone marrow and their release into the bloodstream, facilitating the collection of stem cells for transplantation.
  • Severe Chronic Neutropenia: In certain rare cases, individuals may have a chronic condition called severe chronic neutropenia, characterized by an ongoing deficiency of neutrophils. Filgrastim can be used as a long-term treatment to increase neutrophil production and reduce the risk of infections.

This medicine may be recommended for different uses. Approach your physician or pharmacist for more information.

Do not use Zarzio in people with the following conditions:

  • Allergy: Filgrastim should not be used in individuals who have a known hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to filgrastim or any of its components. Allergic reactions can range from mild symptoms like rash or itching to severe reactions like difficulty breathing or anaphylaxis.
  • Myeloid Leukemia: Filgrastim is contraindicated in patients with myeloid leukemia whose cancer cells are primarily of the myeloid lineage. This is because filgrastim can stimulate the growth of myeloid leukemia cells and worsen the condition.
  • Hypersensitivity to E. coli-derived Proteins: Filgrastim is produced using recombinant DNA technology in E. coli bacteria. Individuals with known hypersensitivity to E. coli-derived proteins should avoid using filgrastim.
  • Patients Receiving Cytotoxic Chemotherapy: In patients receiving cytotoxic chemotherapy, filgrastim should not be administered within 24 hours before or after chemotherapy, as it may interfere with the effectiveness of the chemotherapy. Your healthcare professional will determine the appropriate timing for filgrastim administration based on your specific treatment plan and medical condition.
  • Patients with Sickle Cell Disease: Filgrastim should be used with caution in patients with sickle cell disease, as it may increase the risk of sickle cell crisis. Close monitoring is necessary if filgrastim is prescribed in such cases.

Zarzio may have the following side effects:

  • Headache: Headaches are another common side effect of filgrastim. These headaches are typically mild and can be relieved with over-the-counter pain medications.
  • Nausea and vomiting: Some individuals may experience nausea or vomiting while using filgrastim. Your healthcare professional may prescribe anti-nausea medications to help manage these symptoms.
  • Fatigue: Filgrastim may cause feelings of fatigue or tiredness. It is important to get enough rest and practice self-care while undergoing treatment.

Precautions

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

  • Medical history: Inform your healthcare professional about your complete medical history, including any pre-existing conditions, allergies, or ongoing medications. This information will help them determine if filgrastim is suitable for you and if any adjustments need to be made.
  • Infections: Filgrastim is used to stimulate the production of white blood cells, which can increase the risk of infections. If you develop signs of infection such as fever, chills, sore throat, or cough, contact your healthcare professional immediately.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, discuss the risks and benefits of using filgrastim with your healthcare professional. It is also important to inform your healthcare professional if you are breastfeeding, as it is not known whether filgrastim passes into breast milk.
  • Driving and operating machinery: Filgrastim is not known to impair your ability to drive or operate machinery. However, if you experience any side effects that affect your alertness or coordination, it is advisable to avoid such activities until you feel comfortable and safe.

Prior to taking this medicine, tell your physician or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, or if you have some other hypersensitivities. This drug may contain inert ingredients which can cause unfavorable side effects or different issues. Talk with your pharmacist for more information.

Interactions

Zarzio may interact with the following medicines:

  • Chemotherapy drugs: Filgrastim is often used in conjunction with chemotherapy to stimulate the production of white blood cells. However, certain chemotherapy drugs may interact with filgrastim, potentially affecting its effectiveness or increasing the risk of side effects. Your healthcare professional will carefully monitor your treatment regimen to ensure the best outcomes.
  • Lithium: Filgrastim may increase the blood levels of lithium, a medication used to treat bipolar disorder. This can potentially lead to lithium toxicity. If you are taking lithium, your healthcare professional will closely monitor your lithium levels and adjust the dosage if needed.
  • Corticosteroids: Concurrent use of corticosteroids, such as prednisone, with filgrastim may reduce the effectiveness of filgrastim. Your healthcare professional will consider this interaction when developing your treatment plan.
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs): Some NSAIDs, like ibuprofen or aspirin, may increase the risk of bleeding when used with filgrastim. It is important to inform your healthcare professional if you are taking NSAIDs so they can monitor you closely for signs of bleeding.
  • Other medications: There may be other medications that can interact with filgrastim, so it is crucial to disclose your complete medication list to your healthcare professional. They will assess potential interactions and adjust your treatment plan accordingly.

Inform your physician about the drugs you take including over-the-counter medications, prescribed drugs, supplements and vitamins.

This is not a complete list of drug interactions. Approach your physician or pharmacist for more details.

The effects of certain medications can change if you consume different medications or herbal products simultaneously. This can build your risk for side effects or may cause your drugs not to work effectively. These interactions are conceivable, yet don’t generally happen. Your physician or pharmacist can prevent or oversee interactions by changing how you utilize your prescriptions or by close checking.

While utilizing this drug, don’t start, stop, or change the dose of other medicines you are using without your physician’s advice.

If you suspect an overdose, contact your doctor right away.
