Do not use Valsadex-165/Valsadex-170 in people with the following conditions:

  • Allergy: If you have a known allergy or hypersensitivity to valsartan, amlodipine, or any other components of these medications, they should not be used.
  • Pregnancy: Valsartan and amlodipine are not recommended during pregnancy as they may harm the developing fetus. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, it is important to discuss alternative treatment options with your healthcare professional.
  • Breastfeeding: It is generally not recommended to use valsartan or amlodipine while breastfeeding, as both medications may pass into breast milk and potentially harm the nursing infant. Your healthcare professional can help you explore safer alternatives if needed.
  • Severe liver disease: Valsartan and amlodipine are metabolized in the liver, so they may not be suitable for individuals with severe liver disease. In such cases, your healthcare professional may need to adjust the dosage or consider alternative treatments.
  • Severe kidney disease: Valsartan and amlodipine should be used with caution in individuals with severe kidney disease. Your healthcare professional may need to adjust the dosage based on your kidney function.
  • Hypotension (low blood pressure): Valsartan and amlodipine can lower blood pressure, so caution should be exercised in individuals with already low blood pressure or those prone to hypotension.
  • Heart failure: While valsartan can be prescribed for certain heart conditions, it is not recommended for individuals with severe heart failure or those who require specific heart failure medications like angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors or angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitors (ARNIs).

Precautions

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

  • Medical history: Inform your healthcare professional about your complete medical history, including any previous allergic reactions, kidney or liver disease, heart conditions, blood vessel problems, electrolyte abnormalities, or any other relevant health conditions.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, it is important to discuss the risks and benefits of using valsartan and amlodipine with your healthcare professional. These medications may not be recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding due to potential harm to the fetus or nursing infant.
  • Driving and operating machinery: Valsartan and amlodipine may cause dizziness or lightheadedness. If you experience these side effects, avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how the medications affect you.
  • Alcohol consumption: Limit or avoid alcohol consumption while taking valsartan and amlodipine, as alcohol can further lower blood pressure and increase the risk of dizziness or lightheadedness.
  • Salt substitutes and potassium supplements: Avoid using salt substitutes or potassium supplements without consulting your healthcare professional, as they may increase potassium levels in the blood when combined with valsartan.

Prior to taking this medicine, tell your physician or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, or if you have some other hypersensitivities. This drug may contain inert ingredients which can cause unfavorable side effects or different issues. Talk with your pharmacist for more information.

Interactions

Valsadex-165/Valsadex-170 may interact with the following medicines:

  • Other blood pressure medications: Combining valsartan and amlodipine with other blood pressure medications, such as beta-blockers or diuretics, may lead to an additive antihypertensive effect. Your healthcare professional will monitor your blood pressure closely and adjust dosages if needed.
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs): NSAIDs, including ibuprofen and naproxen, may reduce the effectiveness of valsartan and amlodipine in lowering blood pressure.
  • Potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements: Concurrent use of potassium-sparing diuretics (e.g., spironolactone) or potassium supplements can increase potassium levels in the blood. This combination should be used cautiously and monitored by your healthcare professional.
  • Lithium: The combination of lithium and valsartan may increase the levels of lithium in the blood. Your healthcare professional will monitor your lithium levels closely if you are taking both medications.
  • Antifungal medications: Some antifungal medications, such as ketoconazole and itraconazole, may increase the levels of amlodipine in the blood. Dose adjustments may be necessary in such cases.
  • Grapefruit juice: Consuming grapefruit juice while taking amlodipine may increase the levels of amlodipine in the blood, potentially leading to an increased risk of side effects. It is recommended to avoid grapefruit juice while on amlodipine.

Inform your physician about the drugs you take including over-the-counter medications, prescribed drugs, supplements and vitamins.

This is not a complete list of drug interactions. Approach your physician or pharmacist for more details.

The effects of certain medications can change if you consume different medications or herbal products simultaneously. This can build your risk for side effects or may cause your drugs not to work effectively. These interactions are conceivable, yet don’t generally happen. Your physician or pharmacist can prevent or oversee interactions by changing how you utilize your prescriptions or by close checking.

While utilizing this drug, don’t start, stop, or change the dose of other medicines you are using without your physician’s advice.

If you suspect an overdose, contact your doctor right away.
