TAMZOR DUO

Do not use Tamzor Duo in people with the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Dutasteride and tamsulosin are not approved for use in women, especially those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Dutasteride can harm a developing fetus, and tamsulosin may pass into breast milk, potentially causing harm to a nursing infant.
• Severe liver disease: Both dutasteride and tamsulosin are metabolized in the liver. If you have severe liver disease or impaired liver function, the use of these medications may be contraindicated. Your healthcare provider will assess your liver function before prescribing these medications.
• Use with certain medications: Dutasteride and tamsulosin may interact with other medications, such as alpha-blockers, antifungal medications, and HIV protease inhibitors. It is important to inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking to avoid potential interactions.
• Use in pediatric patients: The safety and efficacy of dutasteride and tamsulosin combination therapy have not been established in pediatric patients, so it is generally not recommended for use in individuals under the age of 18.

Tamzor Duo may have the following side effects:

• Sexual side effects: Dutasteride may cause a decrease in sexual desire, difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection (impotence), and a decrease in semen volume. These side effects are generally reversible upon discontinuing the medication. Tamsulosin may cause ejaculation disorders, such as retrograde ejaculation, where semen enters the bladder instead of being expelled through the penis.
• Dizziness and orthostatic hypotension: Tamsulosin can cause dizziness, lightheadedness, and a sudden drop in blood pressure upon standing up from a sitting or lying position. This may lead to fainting or falls, especially when starting the medication or increasing the dosage. It is important to rise slowly from a seated or lying position to minimize the risk of these side effects
• Gastrointestinal effects: Both medications may cause gastrointestinal side effects, including nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea, and constipation. If these symptoms persist or become severe, it is advisable to consult your healthcare provider
• Allergic reactions: Although rare, allergic reactions to dutasteride and tamsulosin can occur. Symptoms may include rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any signs of an allergic reaction
• Other side effects: Other less common side effects may include headache, abnormal ejaculation, breast enlargement or tenderness, and changes in liver function test results

Precautions

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

• Prostate cancer: Dutasteride is sometimes used to treat an enlarged prostate, but it may also mask the presence of prostate cancer. Before beginning dutasteride and tamsulosin therapy, your healthcare provider should rule out the possibility of prostate cancer through appropriate evaluation.
• Risk of urinary tract infections: Tamsulosin can relax the muscles in the bladder and prostate, making it easier for urine to flow. However, this can also increase the risk of urinary tract infections (UTIs) in some individuals. If you have a history of UTIs or are prone to developing them, your healthcare provider may need to monitor you closely during treatment.
• Cataract surgery: Tamsulosin may cause a condition called intraoperative floppy iris syndrome (IFIS) during cataract surgery. It is important to inform your ophthalmologist if you are taking tamsulosin or have taken it in the past, as this can affect surgical planning and management.
• Blood pressure: Tamsulosin can cause orthostatic hypotension, which is a sudden drop in blood pressure upon standing up. If you have low blood pressure or are taking medications that lower blood pressure, it is important to monitor your blood pressure regularly while taking tamsulosin.
• Drug interactions: Dutasteride and tamsulosin may interact with other medications, including certain alpha-blockers, antifungal medications, and HIV protease inhibitors. It is crucial to inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements, to avoid potential interactions.

Prior to taking this medicine, tell your physician or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, or if you have some other hypersensitivities. This drug may contain inert ingredients which can cause unfavorable side effects or different issues. Talk with your pharmacist for more information.

Interactions

Tamzor Duo may interact with the following medicines:

• Alpha-blockers: Tamsulosin is an alpha-blocker, and combining it with other alpha-blockers may increase the risk of low blood pressure and dizziness.
• Antifungal medications: Certain antifungal medications, such as ketoconazole and itraconazole, can increase the blood levels of dutasteride. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust the dosage of dutasteride if you are taking these medications.
• HIV protease inhibitors: Some HIV protease inhibitors, like ritonavir and indinavir, can also increase the blood levels of dutasteride. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor you closely and adjust the dosage if you are taking these medications.
• Other medications: Although less common, other medications may interact with dutasteride and tamsulosin. It’s important to inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking to ensure there are no potential interactions.

Inform your physician about the drugs you take including over-the-counter medications, prescribed drugs, supplements and vitamins.
