LANTUS SOLOSTAR

Lantus Solostar is used in the following conditions:

  • Type 1 and type 2 diabetes
  • Used to help control blood sugar levels in adults and children over 6 years of age
  • Reduces the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) and helps to prevent long-term complications of diabetes, such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure
  • Often used in combination with other insulin and oral medications to control blood sugar levels

Do not use Lantus Solostar in people with the following conditions:

  • Hypersensitivity
  • Those who have had a severe hypoglycemic episode
  • Those with ketoacidosis
  • Those with an acute infection
  • Heart failure
  • Renal or hepatic impairment
  • Those with a history of hypoglycemia

Lantus Solostar may have the following side effects:

  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
  • Weight gain
  • Allergic reactions, such as itching, redness, or swelling at the injection site
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Skin thickening or redness around the injection site
  • Irritability
  • Dizziness
  • Blurred vision
  • Muscle pain or cramps
  • Abnormal liver function tests

Keep in mind that your physician has recommended this drug since he or she has known that the advantage to you is more noteworthy than the risk of adverse reactions. Many individuals utilizing this medicine don’t have serious side effects.

Precautions

  • Let your healthcare provider know if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant before using insulin glargine. Insulin glargine may pass into breast milk, so it is important to talk about other options for breastfeeding mothers
  • Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly to ensure that the insulin glargine is working properly

Interactions

Lantus Solostar may interact with the following medicines:

  • Diuretics and certain antibiotics, may increase the risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
  • Other medications, such as corticosteroids, may decrease the effectiveness of insulin glargine
  • Certain herbs and supplements may interact with insulin glargine and should be avoided. Some of these include chromium, coenzyme Q10, and ginseng.

Inform your physician about the drugs you take including over-the-counter medications, prescribed drugs, supplements and vitamins.
