HEEL FRACTURE

Calcaneus or heel fractures are fractures of the calcaneus, or heel bone. This fracture may be a painful and disabling injury. This commonly occurs after an accident such as an automobile crash or a fall from a ladder.

Heel fractures can give rise to symptoms such as:

  • Pain
  • Bruising
  • Swelling
  • Heel deformity
  • Inability to put weight on the heel or walk

Your doctor will create plans for your treatment, which is based on

  • The cause of your injury
  • Your overall health
  • The severity of your injury
  • The amount of tissue harm

Because greater calcaneus fractures may cause the bone to widen and shorten, the goal of treatment is to repair the normal anatomy of the heel.

Patients whose heel anatomy is restored have better results. In most cases, recreating the normal heel anatomy entails surgical operation. Your physician will talk about the different alternatives with you.
