QUIT SMOKING

 

Quitting smoking isn’t easy. In fact, the average person attempts to quit is six times before succeeding. According to the American Cancer Society, Nicotine in tobacco cigarette is as addictive as heroin or cocaine.

There are many ways to quit smoking, including:

  • Cold Turkey – This refers to quitting smoking without aids, therapy or medicine.
  • Behavioral Therapy- A counselor will provide you ways not to smoke. They’ll find what triggers you to smoke and make plans to make you get through your cravings.
  • Nicotine Replacement Therapy- Quitting will be done gradually and tobacco will be replaced by other things that also have Nicotine. Examples are Nicotine gums, inhalers, patches, lozenges and sprays.
  • Medication- Some medicines like Bupropion (Zyban) and Varenicline (Chantix) are prescribed to treat cravings and symptoms of withdrawal.
  • Combo Treatments- It means using a combination of treatments such as behavioral therapy and nicotine replacement therapy.

  • Lungs and Heart diseases

    • Alzheimer’s disease

    • Autoimmune diseases like lupus
