BAD BREATH

Bad breath is also known as halitosis or fetor oris, and it is usually a result of underlying health problem within or beyond the mouth. Bad breath odor can be a temporary problem or a chronic condition.

In addition to a bad smell in your mouth, you may also notice a bad taste in your mouth. If the taste is due to an underlying condition and isn’t because of trapped food particles, it may not disappear even if you brush your teeth and use mouthwash.

DIAGNOSIS

Diagnosis for bad breath is through a thorough dental history and oral examination.

TREAMENT

Treatment for bad breath depends on your dental history and oral examination.

If the source of the odor is properly identified, the dentist may immediately suggest a dental cleaning as a solution. However if the source is unknown there may be a need to consult a general physician in order to rule out an underlying disease.

The dentist may also recommend the use of an artificial saliva product and drinking plenty of water.
