Telmisartan, a nonpeptide tetrazole derivative, is an angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor antagonist. It lowers blood pressure by stopping angiotensin II from binding to AT1 receptors, preventing sodium reabsorption and aldosterone release, and reducing the constriction of blood vessels caused by angiotensin II.
Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine Ca channel blocker that lowers blood pressure and peripheral vascular resistance. It does this by relaxing the vascular smooth muscle and increasing coronary vasodilation by blocking Ca ion transmembrane influx into vascular and cardiac smooth muscles.
