DIAGNOSIS
The most common methods used to diagnose physical urticaria are the patient history and physical examination. A test may be used to confirm the diagnosis if there is indeed a history of reactivity to physical triggers. The test is conducted by applying the suspected agent to the skin, such as ice or light, in the hopes of eliciting a response.
In some situations, your doctor may order tests in order to learn more about your disease. The tests may include:
Passive warming test. This will elevate your body temperature by using warm water or a warmer environment. When you’re exposed to more heat, your doctor may watch how your body reacts.
Skin challenge test: This test may include a component— methacholine. It will create a reaction in your body and the doctor will determine it.
TREATMENT
Working together, your doctor will create a treatment plan that is customized for your unique situation and requirements.
Simple dietary changes may be all you need if your symptoms are minor. If you’re athletic or do a lot of physical or demanding activity in your everyday life, however, lifestyle changes can be difficult to stick to. For some people, medication may be a preferable alternative.
