BIPERIDEN HYDROCHLORIDE

Biperiden is a drug that belongs to a class of medicines known as muscarinic antagonists. It affects the brain and the nerves and is used to treat a medical condition known as parkinsonism. It has likewise been utilized to reduce extrapyramidal symptoms that result with the use of medicines like phenothiazine derivatives and reserpine.

Biperiden Hydrochloride is used in the treatment of the following:

  • Parkinsonism
  • Alleviation of extrapyramidal syndrome by drugs such as phenothiazines

Do not give Biperiden Hydrochloride to people with the following conditions:

  • Prostatic enlargement
  • Paralytic ileus
  • Pyloric stenosis
  • Ulcerative colitis
  • Angle-closure glaucoma
  • Myasthenia gravis

Biperiden Hydrochloride may have the following side effects:

  • Dry mouth with difficulty in swallowing and talking
  • Thirst
  • Reduced bronchial secretions
  • Mydriasis
  • Cycloplegia and photophobia
  • Transient bradycardia followed by tachycardia with palpitation

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

  • Patients with diarrhea
  • Fever
  • Thyrotoxicosis
  • Heart failure
  • Cardiac surgery
  • Heart attack
  • Hypertension
  • Children
  • Elderly

Interactions

Biperiden Hydrochloride may interact with the following medicines:

  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors(MAOIs)
  • Amantadine
  • Antihistamines
  • Phenothiazine antipsychotics
  • Tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs)
  • Parasympathomimetics
