AMLODIPINE HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE

Amlodipine hydrochlorothiazide is a combination drug that is composed of amlodipine and hydrochlorothiazide.

Amlodipine is used along with other medicines to treat hypertension. Lowering high blood pressure can prevent complications. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker drug that dilates or widens blood vessels to improve blood circulation. Amlodipine is additionally used to prevent chest pain or angina attacks.

Hydrochlorothiazide is also utilized in the treatment of hypertension. It is known as a diuretic and works by making you urinate more. This enables your body to dispose of additional salt and water. Do not give Amlodipine Hydrochlorothiazide to people with the following conditions:

  • Hypersensitivity to amlodipine, hydrochlorothiazide or other sulfonamide derivatives
  • Advanced aortic stenosis
  • Severe hepatic impairment and/ or cholestasis
  • Anuria or kidney impairment
  • History of cardiogenic shock
  • Women of childbearing potential
  • Pregnancy
  • Lactation

Amlodipine Hydrochlorothiazide may have the following side effects:

  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia
  • Dizziness
  • Vertigo
  • Headache
  • Paresthesia
  • Hypotension
  • Hyperglycemia
  • Impotence
  • Thrombocytopenia
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

  • Infants and children
  • Elderly
  • Liver and heart failure
  • Hypotension
  • Severe renal disease
  • Hepatic disease or progressive liver disease
  • History of allergy or bronchial asthma
  • Exacerbation or activation of SLE
  • May impair glucose tolerance
  • Discontinue use before taking parathyroid function test
  • Hyperuricemia
  • Hypomagnesemia

  • Amantadine
