AMISULPRIDE

Amisulpride tablets are used in the treatment of schizophrenic disorders, in which there are positive symptoms such as delusions and hallucinations as well as negative symptoms like emotional and social withdrawal.

Amisulpride is used to treat acute psychosis.

Do not give Amisulpride to people with the following conditions:

  • Phaeochromocytoma
  • Concomitant prolactin-dependent tumors (such as pituitary gland prolactinomas or breast cancer)
  • Pre-pubertal children
  • Combination with levodopa

Amisulpride may have the following side effects:

  • Insomnia
  • Anxiety
  • Agitation
  • Drowsiness
  • Weight gain
  • Acute dystonia
  • Parkinsonism
  • Hyperglycaemia
  • Breast pain
  • Neuroleptic malignant syndrome

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

  • Patientswith a history of epilepsy
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Renal impairment
  • Elderly
  • Pregnancy
  • Lactation

Interactions

Amisulpride may interact with the following medicines:

  • Thioridazine
  • Halofantrine
  • Erythromycin
  • Clonidine
  • Guanfacine
  • Digoxin
  • Benzodiazepines
  • Levodopa

Symptoms of overdose may include the following:

  • Generalized convulsions
  • Coma
  • Motor restlessness
  • Tachycardia
  • Slight prolongation of the QT intervalon ECG
  • Drowsiness
  • Sedation
  • Hypotension
