Tips to Maintain Youthful-Looking Skin

Using the right skin-care products can enhance your complexion and help avoid signs of aging, like wrinkles. Here are some tips to help your skin stay healthy and youthful-looking:

Use a gentler face wash. Look for a mild face wash that uses essential fatty acids for optimal hydration and green tea that fights against damage from free radicals.

Start using prescription retinoid. Collagen is the protein responsible for keeping skin looking smooth and taut. However, skin begins losing collagen with age, resulting in creases. To counter collagen loss, experts strongly recommend using a retinoid, the prescription-strength version of vitamin A.

Level up your SPF routine. Regular use of sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher is an excellent way to keep your skin healthy and prevent age spots and discoloration.

Make sure to use a more moisturizing sunscreen cream, and avoid alcohol-containing sprays and gels that can dry out your skin. Sunscreens that contain antioxidants are also recommended as these protect the collagen in your skin.

Use a richer face cream. Oil glands can become less active as you age. As such, it’s important to moisturize properly with a richer face cream to minimize fine lines and wrinkles. Apply it to your neck and upper torso to treat those areas as well.

Watch what you eat. Avoid alcohol and other stuff that can dehydrate, as well as foods high in sugar and white carbohydrates which can actually age you faster by breaking down glucose.

Opt for more protein in your diet, including foods like fish, lean meats, beans, and legumes to help build strong collagen. Dermatologists also recommend foods high in vitamin C to keep skin looking youthful.

Consider supplements. Omega-3s present in certain seafood, like salmon, can help keep skin moist and prevent wrinkles. If you don’t eat fish or fish products, talk to your dermatologist about taking fish oil or flaxseed oil supplements.

Exfoliate weekly. Our skin sheds dead cells regularly. But that process can slow over time, leading to a dull-looking complexion and rough patches. To help remove that buildup, exfoliate weekly for brighter skin.

Consult your dermatologist for more information on how to keep your skin healthy.
