TALAMPICILLIN

Talampicillin is a drug that belongs to the penicillin group of antibiotics. It is structurally related to the drug ampicillin and is used to treat infections as an antibiotic.

Uses

Talampicillin is used in the treatment of susceptible infections.

Warnings

Talampicillin should not be given to people with a known hypersensitivity to ampicillin or other penicillins.

Haemolytic anaemia
Thrombocytopenia
Leucopenia
Neutropenia
Coagulation disorders
Prolonged bleeding time and prothrombin time
CNS toxicity (e.g. convulsions)
Paraesthesia
Nephropathy
Interstitial nephritis
Hepatitis
Cholestatic jaundice
Moderate and transient increase in transaminases

Extra caution should be observed with the following conditions:

Patient w/ history of β-lactam allergy
Kidney disease
Pregnancy
Breastfeeding

Interactions

Talampicillin may interact with the following medicines:

Oral contraceptives
Warfarin
Phenindione
Oral typhoid vaccines
Methotrexate
Probenecid
Sulfinpyrazone
Allopurinol
Chloroquine
Bacteriostatic antibacterials (e.g. erythromycin, chloramphenicol, tetracycline)

Overdose & Brands
