Risdiplam is a survival of motor neuron (SMN) 2 pre-mRNA splicing modifier that causes an increase in the generation of functional and stable SMN protein by shifting the balance from exon 7 exclusions to exon 7 inclusion into the mRNA transcript. It improves and maintains functional SMN protein levels in the brain, which helps to cure spinal muscular atrophy.
