QUATAM

Quatam is used in the following conditions:

  • Treat a variety of bacterial infections, including those of the skin, lungs, urinary tract, and abdominal cavity
  • Treat more serious infections, such as endocarditis and sepsis
  • Used in combination with other antibiotics to increase the effectiveness of treatment
  • This medicine may be recommended for different uses. Approach your physician or pharmacist for more information.

Do not use Quatam in people with the following conditions:

  • Hypersensitivity
  • History of anaphylaxis or other allergic reactions to penicillins or cephalosporins
  • History of seizures or other CNS disorders

Quatam may have the following side effects:

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, rash, itching, and joint pain
  • Less common side effects may include: dizziness, fever, chills, shortness of breath, chest pain, confusion, hallucinations, seizures, and swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
  • Serious side effects may include allergic reactions, severe skin reactions, liver problems, or kidney problems

Keep in mind that your physician has recommended this drug since he or she has known that the advantage to you is more noteworthy than the risk of adverse reactions. Many individuals utilizing this medicine don’t have serious side effects.

A serious allergy to this medication is uncommon. In any case, seek emergency medical help if you see any manifestations of a serious allergic response, including a rash, tingling or swelling particularly of the face or tongue or throat, dizziness or difficulty in breathing.

Precautions

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

  • Patients should be monitored closely for signs of infection, including fever, chills, or other signs of infection.
  • Patients on cefepime/sulbactam should notify their healthcare provider if they experience any signs of infection.
  • Cefepime/sulbactam may increase the risk of seizures, especially in patients with a history of seizures or who are taking medications that can increase the risk of seizures. Patients should notify their healthcare provider if they experience any new or worsening seizure activity.
  • Cefepime/sulbactam may cause kidney problems, including a decrease in kidney function.
  • Patients should drink plenty of fluids and contact their healthcare provider if they experience any signs of kidney problems, such as increased thirst, decreased urination, or swelling.
  • Cefepime/sulbactam may cause anemia, a decrease in red blood cells. Patients should contact their healthcare provider if they experience any signs of anemia such as fatigue, pale skin, or shortness of breath

Prior to taking this medicine, tell your physician or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, or if you have some other hypersensitivities. This drug may contain inert ingredients which can cause unfavorable side effects or different issues. Talk with your pharmacist for more information.

Interactions

Quatam may interact with the following medicines:

  • Certain other drugs, including sulbactam
  • Aminoglycosides

Inform your physician about the drugs you take including over-the-counter medications, prescribed drugs, supplements and vitamins.
