PARACETAMOL + DEXTROPROPOXYPHENE

Dextropropoxyphene is a drug that belongs to a class of medicines known as centrally-acting opioid analgesics. It binds to opioid receptors in the brain and nerves. It is used to relieve pain.

Dextropropoxyphene is used for long term pain.

Dextropropoxyphene should not be given with alcohol. Do not give to people with known allergy to paracetamol or to dextropropoxyphene.

Dextropropoxyphene may have the following side effects:

  • Dizziness
  • Sedation
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Weakness
  • Constipation
  • Abdominal pain
  • Rash
  • Euphoria
  • Dysphoria
  • Visual disturbances
  • Liver dysfunction

Precautions

Caution should be observed in the following medical conditions:

  • Liver and kidney problems
  • Pregnancy, lactation
  • Children, elderly

Dextropropoxyphene may impair alertness and muscle coordination

This drug is not recommended to be used in patients who are suicidal or prone to drug dependence.

 

Interactions

Dextropropoxyphene may interact with the following medicines:

  • Antidepressants
  • Anticonvulsants
  • Warfarin-like drugs
  • Paracetamol
  • Carbamazepine
  • Ritonavir
  • Other CNS depressants, including alcohol

Overdosage with dextropropoxyphene and paracetamol may have the following symptoms:

  • Respiratory depression
  • Low blood pressure
  • Heart problems
  • Anorexia
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diaphoresis
  • General malaise
  • Abdominal pain
  • Liver toxicity
