PAPAVERINE

Papaverine is a vasodilator that helps widen your blood vessels for the blood to flow more easily. This drug relaxes the smooth muscles in the veins to prevent or treat conditions such as:

  • Heart Attack
  • Chest Pain
  • Circulation Problems
  • Disorders of the Stomach
  • Gallbladder Problems

This medication is intended in treating several conditions that is caused by the spasm of smooth muscle such as heart attack, chest pain, circulation problems, or disorders of the stomach or gallbladder.

Do not use Papaverine if you are allergic to any of its content or if you have a serious heart condition such as “AV block.”

Common side effects may include:

  • Nausea
  • Upset Stomach
  • Loss of Appetite
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • General Ill Feeling
  • Headache
  • Drowsiness
  • Dizziness or Spinning Sensation
  • Flushing (Warmth, Redness, or Tingly Feeling)

  • Clay-Colored Stools
  • Jaundice (Yellowing of the Skin or Eyes)
  • Skin Rash
  • Bruising
  • Severe Tingling
  • Numbness
  • Pain
  • Muscle Weakness
  • Severe Headache
  • Blurred Vision
  • Fast Heart Rate
  • Pounding in the Neck or Ears
  • Anxiety
  • Shortness of Breath
  • Extreme Drowsiness
  • Vision Changes
  • Pain, Swelling, or Redness where the Medicine was Injected

Call your doctor if you experience other symptoms while using this drug.

Precautions

Before taking this drug, tell your doctor or pharmacist:

  • If you are allergic to it or if you have any other allergies.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are to undergo any surgical procedure.
  • If you are taking herbal, prescription and non-prescription drugs.
  • If you have certain medical conditions such as:
    • Heart Disease
    • High Blood Pressure
    • Glaucoma
    • Liver Disease

  • Narcotic Pain Medicine
  • Muscle Relaxer
  • Medicine for Anxiety, Depression, or Seizures

Call emergency hotline if someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing.

Symptoms of overdose may include:

  • Weakness
  • Drowsiness
  • Dizziness
  • Vomiting
  • Double Vision
  • Sweating
  • Warmth Or Redness
  • Fast Heartbeats
  • Uncontrolled Eye Movement
