OPIPRAMOL

Opipramol is a drug belonging to a class of medicines known as tricyclic antidepressants. It acts by blocking the re-uptake of noradrenaline and serotonin in the nerves.

Uses

Opipramol is used to treat depression.

Warnings

Opipramol should not be used in the following conditions:

Intoxication with alcohol, barbiturates or benzodiazepines
Benign prostatic hypertrophy
Urinary retention
Glaucoma
Pyloric stenosis
Bowel obstruction
Predisposition to seizures or epilepsy
Severe liver problems
Severe kidney problems

Symptoms of overdose include the following:

Excitement
Restlessness
Marked antimuscarinic effects (e.g. dry mouth, hot dry skin, dilated pupils, tachycardia, urinary retention, intestinal stasis)
Unconsciousness
Convulsions
Myoclonus
Hyperreflexia
Hypothermia
Hypotension
Metabolic acidosis
Respiratory and cardiac depression
Cardiac arrhythmias
