POTASSIUM IODINE

Potassium Iodine is an effective antidote for the intake of radioactive iodine, a pollutant that contaminates water and food during radioactive outbreaks. It prevents radioactive iodine uptake by saturating the thyroid gland with the help of non-radioactive iodine.

Potassium iodine is prescribed as an expectorant that increases respiratory tract secretion and reduces the viscosity of the mucus.

Warnings

Overdose & Brands

Symptoms of overdose include the following:

Iodism a condition that shows burning mouth or throat, sore teeth or gums, headache, metallic taste, increased salivation, irritation of the eyes, swollen eyelid, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, skin lesions and pulmonary edema
Corrosions in the gastrointestinal tract
Kidney damage
