IRON + SUCROSE

Iron Sucrose is a water-based complex of ferrous hydroxide and sucrose which may be broken down into iron and sucrose by the immune system of the body, particularly by the reticulation endothelial system. This results to an increase in serum iron that is incorporated into hemoglobin. This medicine is used to treat iron deficiency anemia

Iron + sucrose is used in the treatment of the following:

  • Treatment of iron deficiency anemia in the following patients: Hemodialysis Dependent Chronic Kidney Disease (HDD-CKD) patients receiving erythropoietin
  • Peritoneal Dialysis Dependent Chronic Kidney Disease (PDD-CKD) patients receiving erythropoietin
  • Non-Dialysis Dependent Chronic Kidney Disease (NDD-CKD) patients receiving or not receiving erythropoietin.

Do not give Iron + sucrose to those who have hypersensitivities to it.

  • Lactation
  • Children
  • Elderly

 

Interactions

Iron + sucrose may interact with the following medicines:

  • Oral iron preparations

Symptoms of overdose may include the following:

  • Dyspnea
  • Headache
  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Joint aches
  • Paresthesia
  • Abdominal pain
  • Muscle pain
  • Edema
  • Cardiovascular collapse
  • Seek medical help immediately.
