INDORAMIN

Bivalirudin

Indoramin is a drug with α-adrenoceptor blocking effects, which acts selectively and competitively on post-synaptic α1-adrenoceptors. This causes a decrease in peripheral resistance while also relaxes hyperplastic muscles within the prostate.

Indoramin is used in the treatment of hypertension and benign prostatic hyperplasia

Do not give Indoramin in patients with the following conditions:

  • Established heart failure
  • History of micturition syncope and history of postural hypotension when used for benign prostatic hyperplasia
  • Concomitant admin with MAOIs

Indoramin may have the following side effects:

  • Sedation
  • Dizziness
  • Dry mouth
  • Nasal congestion
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Depression
  • Weight gain
  • Failure of ejaculation
  • Orthostatic hypotension
  • Syncope
  • Extrapyramidal disturbances

Precautions

Take extra precautions in people with the following conditions:

  • Patients with history of depression
  • Epilepsy
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Patient undergoing cataract surgery
  • Liver or kidney impairment
  • Elderly
  • Pregnancy
  • Lactation

 

Interactions

Indoramin may interact with the following medicines:

  • Anesthesia
  • Antidepressants
  • Antihypertensives
  • β-blockers
  • Calcium channel blockers
  • Diuretics especially thiazides
  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)

Symptoms of Indoramin overdose include the following:

  • Deep sedation leading to coma
  • Hypotension and fits
