Loperamide HCl

Management of Diarrhea

  • Should not be used in patients with the following conditions:
    • Acute ulcerative colitis or pseudomembranous colitis associated w/ broad-spectrum antibiotics, primary therapy in acute dysentery & when inhibition of peristalsis is to be avoided. Children <12 yr.
  • Caution for use in patients with Hepatic dysfunction. Chronic diarrhea of unknown etiology
  • If you are planning to be pregnant or think you may be pregnant, discuss the risks and benefits of use with your doctor.
  • Before breast-feeding, consult your physician.

Hypersensitivity reactions, constipation &/or abdominal distention. Dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain & discomfort, tiredness, drowsiness, dizziness & urinary retention (rare).

  • Taken with or without food.
  • Acute diarrhea
    • Adult Initially 2 capsules. Subsequent dose: 1 capsule after every loose stool.
  • Chronic diarrhea
    • Adult Initially 2 capsules. Adjust dose until 1-2 normal solid stools/day are obtained. Maintenance: 1-6 cap/day. Max: 8 cap/day.

 

CONTRAINDICATIONS
