IMIGRAN

Do not use Imigran in people with the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity
• Cardiovascular conditions
• History of heart attack or angina (chest pain)
• History of stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA)
• Uncontrolled high blood pressure
• Peripheral vascular disease
• Severe liver disease: Sumatriptan is metabolized in the liver, and individuals with severe liver disease may have reduced ability to metabolize the medication. Hence, it is contraindicated in those with severe liver impairment.

Imigran may have the following side effects:

• Pain or tightness in the chest: Sumatriptan can cause a sensation of pain, pressure, or tightness in the chest. This side effect is usually temporary and resolves on its own. However, it is important to seek medical attention if you experience any chest discomfort, as it could be a sign of a more serious condition
• Dizziness or drowsiness: Sumatriptan may cause dizziness or drowsiness in some individuals. It is important to be cautious while performing activities that require alertness, such as driving or operating machinery, until you know how the medication affects you
• Nausea or vomiting: Some people may experience nausea or vomiting after taking sumatriptan. Taking medication with food or a glass of milk can help alleviate these symptoms. If the nausea or vomiting persists or becomes severe, it is important to inform your healthcare provider
• Flushing or warmth: Sumatriptan can cause a sensation of warmth or flushing in the face or other parts of the body. This is usually temporary and not a cause for concern
• Injection site reactions: If you are using sumatriptan injections, you may experience temporary pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site. These reactions are generally mild and go away on their own.

Keep in mind that your physician has recommended this drug since he or she has known that the advantage to you is more noteworthy than the risk of adverse reactions. Many individuals utilizing this medicine don’t have serious side effects.

A serious allergy to this medication is uncommon. In any case, seek emergency medical help if you see any manifestations of a serious allergic response, including a rash, tingling or swelling particularly of the face or tongue or throat, dizziness or difficulty in breathing.

• Pregnancy and breastfeeding: If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, discuss the use of sumatriptan with your healthcare provider. They can weigh the benefits and potential risks to determine if it is safe for you to use.

Prior to taking this medicine, tell your physician or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, or if you have some other hypersensitivities. This drug may contain inert ingredients which can cause unfavorable side effects or different issues. Talk with your pharmacist for more information.

Interactions

Imigran may interact with the following medicines:

• MAOIs (Monoamine oxidase inhibitors): Taking sumatriptan with MAOIs or within two weeks of stopping MAOIs can increase the risk of serotonin syndrome, a potentially serious condition. It’s important to avoid combining sumatriptan with MAOIs
• SSRIs and SNRIs (Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors): Combining sumatriptan with these medications can increase the risk of serotonin syndrome. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust the doses or closely monitor you if you are taking these medications together
• Ergot-containing medications: Using sumatriptan with ergot-containing medications, such as ergotamine or dihydroergotamine, can increase the risk of vasospasm, a narrowing of blood vessels. It’s important to avoid using these medications within 24 hours of each other
• Other triptans: Using multiple triptans together can increase the risk of side effects and should generally be avoided. It’s important to inform your healthcare provider if you are using any other triptan medications
• Medications that affect liver enzymes: Some medications can affect the way your liver processes sumatriptan, potentially increasing its levels in the body. Examples include certain antifungal medications, certain antibiotics, and some antiviral medications. Your healthcare provider can determine the appropriate dosing or alternative medications based on your specific situation.

Inform your physician about the drugs you take including over-the-counter medications, prescribed drugs, supplements and vitamins.
