HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS 9-VALENT VACCINE

HEMACTIV

Hemactiv is used in the following conditions:

  • Chronic Kidney Disease-Related Anemia: Hemactiv is often prescribed to individuals with chronic kidney disease who have low red blood cell counts (anemia) due to decreased production of erythropoietin by the kidneys. Hemactiv helps stimulate the bone marrow to produce more red blood cells, thereby improving anemia.
  • Cancer-Related Anemia: Cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy may experience anemia as a side effect. Hemactiv can be used to manage anemia in these individuals, helping to increase red blood cell production and alleviate symptoms such as fatigue and weakness.
  • Anemia in HIV Patients: Hemactiv may be prescribed to individuals with HIV who have anemia caused by certain medications or the HIV infection itself. By stimulating red blood cell production, Hemactiv can help improve anemia symptoms in these patients.
  • Anemia in Patients with Myelodysplastic Syndromes: Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are a group of disorders that affect the production of blood cells. Hemactiv may be used to treat anemia in individuals with MDS, helping to increase red blood cell counts and improve symptoms.

This medicine may be recommended for different uses. Approach your physician or pharmacist for more information.

Do not use Hemactiv in people with the following conditions:

  • Hypersensitivity: Hemactiv should not be used in individuals who have had a previous hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to Hemactiv or any of its components. Signs of hypersensitivity may include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or difficulty breathing.
  • Uncontrolled Hypertension: Hemactiv should not be used in individuals with uncontrolled high blood pressure. Treatment with Hemactiv can increase blood pressure, and if blood pressure is not well controlled, it may lead to further complications.
  • Pure Red Cell Aplasia: Hemactiv is contraindicated in individuals with pure red cell aplasia (PRCA). PRCA is a rare condition characterized by the absence of red blood cell precursors in the bone marrow. If Hemactiv is administered to individuals with PRCA, it can worsen the condition.
  • Known Allergic Reactions to Albumin: Hemactiv formulations may contain albumin, a protein derived from human blood. If an individual has a known allergy to albumin, the use of Hemactiv formulations that contain albumin should be avoided.

Hemactiv may have the following side effects:

  • Hypertension: Hemactiv can increase blood pressure in some individuals. Regular monitoring of blood pressure is important during treatment.
  • Headache: Headaches are a commonly reported side effect of Hemactiv. If persistent or severe, it is important to consult a healthcare provider.
  • Fever: Some individuals may experience a low-grade fever after receiving Hemactiv. This side effect is usually mild and temporary.
  • Injection-site reactions: Pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site may occur. These reactions are usually mild and resolve on their own.
  • Nausea and vomiting: Some individuals may experience nausea or vomiting as a side effect of Hemactiv. If severe or persistent, it is advisable to seek medical advice.
  • Allergic reactions: Although rare, allergic reactions to Hemactiv can occur. Signs of an allergic reaction may include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or difficulty breathing. Immediate medical attention should be sought if any of these symptoms occur.

Keep in mind that your physician has recommended this drug since he or she has known that the advantage to you is more noteworthy than the risk of adverse reactions. Many individuals utilizing this medicine don’t have serious side effects.

A serious allergy to this medication is uncommon. In any case, seek emergency medical help if you see any manifestations of a serious allergic response, including a rash, tingling or swelling particularly of the face or tongue or throat, dizziness or difficulty in breathing.

This is not a complete list of side effects. If you see other effects not recorded above, contact your physician or pharmacist.

Precautions

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

  • Hypertension: Hemactiv can increase blood pressure. It is essential to monitor blood pressure regularly during treatment and make any necessary adjustments to manage hypertension effectively.
  • Increased risk of blood clots: Hemactiv can increase the risk of developing blood clots. This risk may be higher in individuals with certain conditions, such as a history of blood clots or those receiving treatment for cancer. It is important to discuss the potential risks and benefits of Hemactiv with your healthcare provider.
  • Seizures: Hemactiv has been associated with seizures in some individuals. If you have a history of seizures or are at risk for seizures, it is important to discuss this with your healthcare provider before starting treatment.
  • Pure Red Cell Aplasia: While rare, cases of pure red cell aplasia (PRCA) have been reported in patients treated with Hemactiv. PRCA is a condition characterized by the absence of red blood cell precursors in the bone marrow. If you experience a sudden, severe drop in red blood cell count, it is important to seek immediate medical attention.
  • Iron deficiency: Adequate iron levels are necessary for the effectiveness of Hemactiv. Your healthcare provider may recommend iron supplementation or iron tests to ensure appropriate iron stores before starting treatment with Hemactiv.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Hemactiv should only be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding if clearly needed and under the guidance of a healthcare provider. The potential risks and benefits should be carefully considered.

Prior to taking this medicine, tell your physician or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, or if you have some other hypersensitivities. This drug may contain inert ingredients which can cause unfavorable side effects or different issues. Talk with your pharmacist for more information.

Interactions

Hemactiv may interact with the following medicines:

  • Anticoagulants (blood thinners): Hemactiv can increase the risk of blood clots, and combining it with anticoagulants may further increase this risk. Close monitoring of blood clotting parameters may be necessary if you are taking both medications.
  • Immunosuppressants: Hemactiv may enhance the immune system, and combining it with immunosuppressant medications may reduce their effectiveness. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust the dosage of either medication or closely monitor your condition.
  • ACE inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs): Hemactiv can increase blood pressure, and combining it with ACE inhibitors or ARBs, commonly used to treat high blood pressure, may further elevate blood pressure. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust the dosage of these medications or closely monitor your blood pressure.
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs): NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen or naproxen, may increase the risk of bleeding when used with Hemactiv. It is important to use these medications cautiously and discuss with your healthcare provider if you need to take them.
  • Medications that affect bone marrow function: Hemactiv stimulates the production of red blood cells in the bone marrow. Medications that affect bone marrow function, such as chemotherapy drugs or certain antibiotics, may interfere with the effectiveness of Hemactiv. Your healthcare provider will determine the best course of action if you are taking these medications.

Inform your physician about the drugs you take including over-the-counter medications, prescribed drugs, supplements and vitamins.

This is not a complete list of drug interactions. Approach your physician or pharmacist for more details.

Your physician or pharmacist can prevent or oversee interactions by changing how you utilize your prescriptions or by close checking.

While utilizing this drug, don’t start, stop, or change the dose of other medicines you are using without your physician’s advice.
