GLUCOMANNAN

Other Names: Amorphophallus konjac, Amorphophallus rivieri, Glucomanano, Glucomannane, Konjac, Konjac Mannan.

Description: Glucomannan is a powdered extract from the tubers of Amorphophallus konjac. It may reduce appetite by absorbing liquid in the GI tract. It also slows the absorption of sugar and cholesterol from the gut, helping to control sugar and reducing cholesterol

Uses

    • Used in the management of constipation, weight loss in adults and children, type 2 diabetes, blood sugar control, and lowering cholesterol

    In food, it is used as a thickener or gelling agent

Side Effects

    • Most likely safe when consumed as food are possibly safe for most adults and children when used in medicinal amounts for up to 4 months.

Precautions

      • Inform your doctor
        • Allergy to the medication or any allergies
        • Medical History of Diabetes

       

      • May interfere with blood sugar control during and after surgery. Medication must be stopped at least 2 weeks before a scheduled surgery.

       

      • If you are planning to be pregnant or think you may be pregnant, discuss the risks and benefits of use with your doctor.

       

      It is uknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Before breast-feeding, consult your physician.

      • Taking multiple drugs may affect how medications work and/or cause unwanted side effects. List down all the medications you are taking and inform your physician and pharmacist. Do not take, discontinue, or alter any dose of medications without prior approval of your physician.

        Antidiabetes drugs such as glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), chlorpropamide (Diabinese), glipizide (Glucotrol), tolbutamide (Orinase)
