GESTODENE

Gestodene is a drug that belongs to a class of medicines known as progestogens. This drug is similar in structure to Levonorgestrel. It is being used for contraception and hormonal replacement therapy.

Uses

Gestodene is used as an oral contraceptive along with other medicines. It is also used as hormone replacement treatment during menopause in women.

Warnings

Gestodene should not be used by people with the following conditions:

Porphyria or bleeding disorders
Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding
History or current high risk of arterial disease
Severe liver impairment

Gestodene may give rise to side effects such as the following:

Gastrointestinal disturbances
Changes in appetite or weight
Swelling, fluid retention or edema
Acne
Chloasma (melasma)
Allergic skin rashes
Urticaria
Mental depression
Breast changes including discomfort or occasionally gynaecomastia
Changes in libido
Hair loss
Hirsutism
Fatigue
Drowsiness or insomnia
Fever
Headache
Premenstrual syndrome-like symptoms
Altered menstrual cycles
