Description: Gelatin is a protein that is used as in surgical procedures to stop bleeding. It works by providing a physical meshwork within which clotting may occur.

  • Used in surgical procedures to stop bleeding.
  • Plasma volume expander in hypovolaemic shock.
  • Gelatin rods may also be used to temporarily block tear outflow in the diagnosis of dry eye.
  • Also used for weight loss and for treating osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and brittle bones (osteoporosis), strengthening bones, joints, and fingernails, improving hair quality and to shorten recovery after exercise and sports-related injury.

How to use gelatin

  • Always refer to your doctors instructions before taking this medication. Duration and dosage will be determined by your medical condition and its response to the medication. Make sure to take this mediciation in the prescribed amount and time period even after symptoms disappear. Discontinuing the medication before completion of treatment may cause incomplete treatment of condition. If Symptoms persist, consult your doctor.
