Flu: Know Its Symptoms and How to Prevent It

Flu is a viral infection that attacks the respiratory tract (nose, throat, and lungs). Its symptoms include:

  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Swollen throat
  • Headache
  • Muscle or body ache
  • Fatigue/weakness
  • Cough
  • Cold

 

The Department of Health (DOH) offers the following tips:

  • Get your annual flu vaccine.
  • Cover your nose and mouth when sneezing and coughing to prevent the spread of the flu virus.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth if your hand came in contact with the respiratory discharge of a person with the flu.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water regularly.
  • Keep your distance from people who are sick.
