FENOTEROL

GENERIC NAME: FENOTEROL INHALATION SOLUTION – ORAL (fen-OH-ter-ohl)

 

Description: Fenoterol is a direct-acting sympathomimetic agent.

  • Treatment of acute asthma and other lung conditions in which causes narrowing of the air passages.

HOW TO USE FENOTEROL

  • Always refer to your doctors instructions and earn how to properly use this drug and maintain the breathing device. Duration and dosage will be determined by your medical condition and its response to the medication. Make sure to take this mediciation in the prescribed amount and time period even after symptoms disappear. Discontinuing the medication before completion of treatment may cause incomplete treatment of condition. If Symptoms persist, consult your doctor.
  • Generally breathed in over a 15 minute period or as directed. Breath quietly and slowly from the machine for the maximum benefit. If the effects of a dose last for less than 3 hours or the medicines are not working as well as usual, seek immediate medical attention. Also promptly report increased use of this drug as this is a sign of a worsening breathing problem.
  • Minor side effects (if these symptoms persist or worsen, inform your doctor).
    • Shakiness, nervousness, dizziness, headache, or cough may occur.
  • Serious side effects (inform your doctor immediately).
    • chest pain, fast or slow pulse, muscle cramping, unusual weakness.
  • Severe allergic reactions are rare. Get immediate medical help if you notice the following:
    • Rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

Precautions

  • Inform your doctor.
    • Allergy to the medication or any allergies , heart diseases, blood vessel disorders, high blood pressure, thyroid problems (hyperthyroid), glaucoma, diabetes.
  • It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Before breast-feeding, consult your physician.

 

Drug Interactions

Taking multiple drugs may affect how medications work and/or cause unwanted side effects. List down all the medications you are taking and inform your physician and pharmacist. Do not take, discontinue, or alter any dose of medications without prior approval of your physician.

  • Products that may interact with this medication include:
    • other adrenaline- like drugs (e.g., pseudoephedrine), anticholinergics (e.g., benztropine), xanthine products (e.g., theophylline, caffeine), corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone), “water pills” (diuretics- e.g., furosemide), beta-blockers (e.g., propranolol), MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, selegiline, phenelzine, moclobemide, linezolid, procarbazine), certain antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline).

Overdose

If overdose is suspected, contact a poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include fast or irregular heartbeat.

Missed Dose: This drug is generally prescribed only as needed. For chronic daily use, consult your doctor or pharmacist for missed dose advice. Do not “double-up” the dose to catch up.

Storage

  • Room temperature 77 degrees F (25 degrees C)
  • Opened bottles may be stored at room temperature for 30 days
  • Do not expose to light and moisture
  • Discard vials after one use. Do not freeze.
  • Do not store in the bathroom
  • Keep all medications away from pets and children
