DAXOTEL

Daxotel is used in the following conditions:

  • Breast, lung, prostate, stomach, head and neck cancers
  • Advanced forms of non-small cell lung cancer, advanced metastatic breast cancer, and metastatic prostate cancer

Do not use Daxotel in people with the following conditions:

  • Hypersensitivity

Docetaxel is contraindicated in patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to docetaxel or other drugs containing polysorbate 80, as well as in patients with severe hepatic or renal impairment. Additionally, docetaxel may interact with other medications, and should not be used in conjunction with certain medications such as certain antibiotics and antifungals.

Daxotel may have the following side effects:

  • Nausea and vomiting: These are common side effects of chemotherapy. Medications can be prescribed to help manage these symptoms.
  • Hair loss: Docetaxel can cause temporary hair loss, including scalp, body, and facial hair. Hair usually grows back after treatment ends.
  • Fatigue: Feeling tired or lacking energy is a common side effect of docetaxel. It is important to get plenty of rest and engage in light physical activity if possible.
  • Diarrhea or constipation: Docetaxel can affect the digestive system, causing diarrhea or constipation. It is important to stay hydrated and follow dietary recommendations provided by your healthcare team.
  • Low blood cell counts: Docetaxel can temporarily reduce the number of white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets in your body. This can increase the risk of infection, anemia, and bleeding. Regular blood tests will be conducted to monitor these levels.
  • Numbness or tingling in hands and feet: This is known as peripheral neuropathy and can cause a sensation of numbness, tingling, or pain in the hands and feet. It is important to inform your healthcare team if you experience these symptoms.
  • Allergic reactions: In rare cases, docetaxel can cause allergic reactions. Signs of an allergic reaction may include difficulty breathing, rash, itching, or swelling. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of these symptoms.

Keep in mind that your physician has recommended this drug since he or she has known that the advantage to you is more noteworthy than the risk of adverse reactions. Many individuals utilizing this medicine don’t have serious side effects.

A serious allergy to this medication is uncommon. In any case, seek emergency medical help if you see any manifestations of a serious allergic response, including a rash, tingling or swelling particularly of the face or tongue or throat, dizziness or difficulty in breathing.

Precautions

Take extra caution in patients with the following medical conditions:

  • Patients should be monitored closely for signs and symptoms of infection, including fever, chills, sore throat, and unusual fatigue
  • Patients should be monitored for signs of an allergic reaction, including hives, swelling of the face and throat, difficulty breathing, and rash
  • The patient should be monitored for possible side effects such as fatigue, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and hair loss
  • Patients should be advised not to take any other medication or supplements while taking docetaxel without first consulting a physician
  • Patients should be advised to inform their physician if they are taking any medications that may interact with docetaxel, including warfarin, cyclosporine, or phenytoin
  • Patients should be monitored for signs and symptoms of bleeding, including easy bruising, blood in the urine, and bleeding from the gums
  • Patients should be monitored for signs of liver toxicity, including jaundice, dark urine, or light-colored stools
  • Patients should be monitored for signs of fluid retention, including swelling of the ankles and feet, rapid weight gain, or difficulty breathing
  • Patients should be advised to use contraception during treatment with docetaxel and for at least 6 months after stopping treatment.

Prior to taking this medicine, tell your physician or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, or if you have some other hypersensitivities. This drug may contain inert ingredients which can cause unfavorable side effects or different issues. Talk with your pharmacist for more information.

Interactions

Daxotel may interact with the following medicines:

  • Over-the-counter and herbal products
  • Blood thinners, such as warfarin and aspirin
  • Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
  • Corticosteroids
  • Certain antibiotics, such as erythromycin and clarithromycin
  • Certain antifungal medications, such as itraconazole and ketoconazole
  • Certain antidepressants, such as fluoxetine, citalopram, and paroxetine
  • Certain heart medications, such as digoxin and certain calcium channel blockers
  • Certain seizure medications, such as phenytoin and carbamazepine
  • Certain HIV/AIDS medications, such as ritonavir and saquinavir* Certain antivirals, such as oseltamivir and acyclovir
  • Certain herbal supplements, such as St. John’s Wort

Inform your physician about the drugs you take including over-the-counter medications, prescribed drugs, supplements and vitamins.
