DARUNAVIR

Darunavir belongs to a class of drugs called protease inhibitors that works by blocking the enzyme which limits the virus’s ability to replicate and spread in the body. This drug intend to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in adults and children ages 3 and older. It’s always given with ritonavir and other HIV medications as part of combination therapy.

This medication, together with other antiretroviral drugs, is used to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

It may cause severe allergic reaction.

Common side effects of this drug may include:

  • Abdominal Pain
  • High Cholesterol and Triglycerides
  • Changes in the Distribution of Body Fat, such as an Increasing Amount of Fat on your Neck
  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Nausea/Vomiting

Notify your doctor promptly if any of these symptoms persist or worsen.

More serious side effects may include:

  • Severe Skin Reaction
    • Blistering
    • Redness
    • Open Sores (Ulcerations)
    • Bleeding With Hemophilia
  • Diabetes
    • High Blood Sugar (Hyperglycemia)
    • Tiredness
    • Increase Thirst
    • Weight Loss
  • Immune Reconstitution Syndrome (IRC) – In IRC, your improved immune system causes past infections to reappear and affect your body again.

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of these serious side effects.

Precautions

Before taking this drug, tell your doctor or pharmacist:

  • If you are allergic to it or if you have any other allergies.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking herbal, prescription and non-prescription drugs.
  • If you have certain medical conditions.

Drug interactions may either lessen the effectiveness of this drug or heighten the risk for severe side effects. It’s important to inform your doctor all the medication including prescription and non-prescription and herbal medicines you are taking or going to take.

Call emergency hotline if someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing.
