CHOLECALCIFEROL

Cholecalciferol is a dietary supplement that provides vitamin D. This is to help people with vitamin D deficiency to maintain adequate health. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium and phosphorus. Having the right amount of vitamin D, calcium, and phosphorus is important for building and keeping strong bones.

This medication is used to treat vitamin D deficiency.

Do not use this drug if you already have high levels of calcium or vitamin D in the body. Do not give this drug to children without consulting to a doctor.

Side effects may include:

  • chest pain
  • feeling short of breath

Notify your doctor promptly if any of these symptoms persist or worsen.

Seek immediate medical attention or stop using this drug if you experience any of these serious side effects.

    • Weakness
    • Metallic Taste in the Mouth
    • Weight Loss
    • Muscle or Bone Pain
    • Constipation
    • Nausea
    • Vomiting

Precautions

Before taking this drug, tell your doctor or pharmacist:

  • If you are allergic to it or if you have any other allergies.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are to undergo surgical procedure.
  • If you are taking herbal, prescription and non-prescription drugs.
  • If you have certain medical conditions such as:
    • Medical History of High Calcium/Vitamin D level (Hypercalcemia/Hypervitaminosis D)
    • Difficulty Absorbing Nutrition from Food (Malabsorption Syndrome)
    • Kidney Disease
    • Liver Disease

Make sure laboratory personnel and all your doctors know you use this drug to avoid false results.

 

Interactions

Drug interactions may either lessen the effectiveness of this drug or heighten the risk for severe side effects. It’s important to inform your doctor all the medication including prescription and non-prescription and herbal medicines you are taking or going to take.

Possible interactions with this drug are:

  • Phosphate Binders
  • Calcitriol

Call emergency hotline if someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing.

Symptoms of overdose may include:

  • Nausea
  • Loss of Appetite
  • Thirst
  • Urinating More or Less than Usual
  • Body Aches
  • Stiffness
  • Confusion
  • Irregular Heartbeats
